Zankou Chicken
1415 E. Colorado Blvd &
1296 E. Colorado Blvd

Ah yes, Zankou. The cool thing about Eagle Rock is that if you go west or east on Colorado, you can get to a Zankou!!

A lot has been already written up on Zankou and their amazing Garlic Sauce, so rather than add more to this topic, I figured I'd just go and eat everything on their menu (not in one sitting, of course) and do a photo-montage.

Half Chicken Plate

Falafel Plate

Shwarma Plate

Salad

Tarna Plate

Chicken Wrap

Hommus

Garlic Sauce

Falafel Wrap

Whole Chicken

Mutabbal

Shwarma Wrap

Pickled Turnips, Chilies

Tarna Wrap

Zankou Tshirt

I'm missing some stuff and I'll be adding it later. I guess I know where I'm going to lunch.... [edited Aug 12: got caught up with the photos - but I didn't eat the T-shirt]

But the sad thing is that you can only find the kabobs and sujuk at the Hollywood location Zankou on Sunset (as far as I am aware of). So, even though it's way off-Colorado, I still needed to get a pic of the sujuk at least.

Nice pics. I always get the same thing at Zankou (1/4 white chicken).

Who knew there was a chanchow and a chowchow in Eagle Rock?

Dang, where has your blog been hiding from me?! I'm the adoptee for the National Historic Route 66 Federation's Adopt A Hundred Program for the final stretch, from Claremont to Santa Monica. From Santa Anita Race Track to Eagle Rock Boulevard, Colorado Boulevard was old Route 66. I've been looking for good places to review for their guide. And now I have a great source to add more!

edbm: Zankou is expanding! Good to know that if I'm in the westside, I can still get that garlic sauce!

chanchow: Right on. I'm sure there are many Chow Hounds in Eagle Rock. Happy eats!

66 Productions: Thank you for new historic information. I did not konw Colorado was part of Route 66. You have added new meaning to my chow search.

A great Alterantive to this palce is "Pita Pita" on Colorado between Lake and Mentor. I go here alot more than Zankou, cause they don't give you the attitude like all the Zankou Chickens!

also "Father Nature" on Delacy off Colorado in Old Town is great too! And you don't get the attitude like in Zankou

BaddAss: Ah yes, Pita Pita. That's another place in my backlog of entries that I need to post. Can't get kabobs at the Zankous on Colorado, so Pita Pita is a joint where you can get your kabob fix fulfilled.

Thanks for the tip on Father Nature.

And oh - i did find a place Zorbas off colorado in the same shopping center as Peets in Pasadena that is doing the Zankou-like rot chicken thing. But it's hard to compete without garlic sauce :(

The writer of www.coloradochow.com has written a superior article. I got your point and there is nothing to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: Build a system that even a computer illiterate can use, and only computer illiterates will want to. I will be back.
